SUMMARY:
The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (Peer Specialist) will provide behavioral health services that foster supportive peer relationships with clients in the various community support programs.Certified peer specialists are individuals who have had personal experience of mental illness and are trained to be direct service mental health staff. Applicants must have completed the DHS State approved training and be certified as a Peer Specialist. This position will also provide Adult Rehabilitation Mental Health Services to adults in order to help clients live a more successfully and independently in their community.
DUTIES:
- To work effectively within the Community Support Program and other HDC Programs providing Peer Support to the clients of HDC.
- The PRS (Peer Recovery Specialist) is an integral member of the team and assists in the development of a culture of recovery and peer support by engaging in and supporting person centered services.
- Have knowledge of, and be able to teach skills related to coping, relapse prevention, and basic household and living skills.
- Assessing needs and applying interventions appropriately.
- Be able to complete functional assessments and treatment plans, daily progress notes, and all other required paperwork.
- The PRS must be able to maintain appropriate boundaries in a variety of settings and situations, be able to establish a trusting relationship with peers, and have excellent interpersonal skills, and maintain an excellent working relationship with colleagues.
- The PRS must be detailed oriented with good writing and organizational abilities. Must be able to network within the community and work with diverse populations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be Certified by MN Department of Human Services as a Certified Peer Support Specialist by completing the State of MN Certified Peer Specialist Training.
- Must meet the qualifications of a Mental Health Practitioner in Minnesota Statute 2451.04
o Bachelor's degree in human services or related field and 2,000 hours of mental health experience.
ยง OR high school diploma and 4,000 hours of mental health experience. Applicants with less than 4,000 hours may still be considered and will require weekly supervision until 4,000 hours of experience if met.
- The applicant has identified self as a person who has direct personal experience living with a mental illness and/or chemical dependency.
- Must have valid driver's license, reliable transportation, current proof of vehicle registration and ability to pass DMV/Criminal background check.
