About HDC

A LITTLE ABOUT WHO WE ARE AND WHERE WE’VE BEEN

HDC was established in 1938 as a private, non-profit community mental health center to support people experiencing mental health challenges throughout the Northland. More than 80 years later, HDC continues this mission daily.

Since inception, HDC has expanded its services to better meet the needs of its communities. HDC is now the largest community mental health center in Northern Minnesota, providing comprehensive integrated mental health and addiction services to all ages across Carlton, Lake, and St. Louis counties in Minnesota and Douglas County, Wisconsin.

In October 2018, HDC began a pilot program working with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as part of a two-year project of service innovation and development to accredit HDC as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). The CCBHC services model improves mental health and substance abuse treatment services by creating more comprehensive and expansive service delivery while removing barriers to access. CCBHC ensures rapid and unobstructed access to care for all people regardless of personal circumstances or ability to pay. Through this coordinated process, HDC clients can expect the highest quality of care.

As of October 1, 2020, HDC is proud to complete the federal pilot program and be the Northland’s first and only Minnesota state Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic.

OUR MISSION

HDC’s mission is to foster hope, resilience, and recovery by providing integrated, culturally respectful mental health and addiction services..
